Palazzolo Acreide

A Baroque city whose roots can be traced back to ancient Greece, Palazzolo Acreide is one of the most beautiful villages in Italy and World Heritage Site since 2002.
Founded as a defensive outpost by the people of Syracuse, the city flourishes now in its beauty after the reconstruction following the devastating earthquake of 1693.
In our itinerary we will revive the city’s ancient glory by visiting the Greek theatre, the bouleuterion, the votive temples, the latomies and the necropolis and by immersing ourselves in the baroque charm of Saint Paul’s Church, Saint Sebastian’s Church and the Caruso and Judica buildings.
We will then retrace the history of the Sicilian peasant with a visit at the home museum of Antonino Uccello, an Italian poet and anthropologist.
